13x how much orders from AI search grew on shopify in a year (and a third of product pages are still literally invisible to chatgpt) 🤡 girlipop Sarah asks chatgpt 'best magnesium for sleep that won't upset my stomach' she gets a shortlist. compares doses. clicks one link. buys that's the new shelf - and there's no store u can walk into to check if you're on it let's do the Dani maths. shopify's own Q1 data: AI-referred sessions: up 8x in a year AI-referred orders: up nearly 13x conversion: ~50% higher than organic search on product pages AOV: 14% higher new-to-brand buyers: landing at 2x the rate of organic (!!) and over half of these sessions start on a product page. organic search? about 20% bc the research already happened inside the chat! here's where some of you are gonna fall behind: your website was built to persuade a human who arrives curious. AI traffic arrives DECIDED! the job of your product page just changed from 'convince her' to 'be quotable' and most PDPs are not quotable. a hero image, three benefit words, and a 'proprietary blend'
gorgeous to humans. a blank bloody page to the machine deciding who gets recommended 💀
bestie that worked for dropshipping + ad models. it wont work now so how do u actually get on the 'shelf'? not 'wRiTe MoRe BlOgS' not 'jUsT aDd Ai To ThE sTrAtEgY dEcK' → ask chatgpt what it recommends for the exact problem your product solves. see if u exist → ingredients, doses and forms in real text on the page - not baked into a graphic → product schema on every PDP - price, stock, reviews, machine-readable → FAQs phrased the way people actually talk to a chatbot, one objection per answer → check robots.txt isn't blocking AI crawlers (this is the invisible third) → third-party testing - certified supplement brands surface ~30% more often in AI answers now I KNOW I KNOW: AI referrals are still ~0.2% of total traffic. tiny.
but so was google once lmao in supplements, 25 websites already drive HALF of all AI brand citations. and researchers reckon new ingredient categories have 12-18 months before the default answers lock in the shortlist is being written right now, with or without you 👋 what i see literally every week: brands approving another £10k of meta creative while the fastest growing channel in ecommerce cannot read their website if this is news, that doesn't make you behind. this channel barely existed 18 months ago. and nobody's pitching u the fix bc there's no salesperson attached to tidying a product page 😭 (meta creative has three) i've sat in these rooms at million dollar and billion dollar brands. everyone knows their meta CTR to two decimal places. nobody has ever asked chatgpt about their own product and done something about it 🥲
Working on this for your own brand? This is exactly what I do with clients — agency model for health & wellness brands.
