I think people have over complicated parenthood
I think people have over complicated parenthood
I just spent 3 days on flights with my 7 month old
Did I have 1001 snacks like Insta told me? No.
Emergency outfit changed in case he pooped everywhere? No.
Packed 30 mins before our taxi came? Yes 🤝
Before I flew my social media was flooded with ‘prepping baby for long haul flights’
Call me naive but it all just seemed like overkill
I’m very much team ‘we’ll figure something out if we need to’
and girl we did just that
Micah’s toy for the flights was an empty water bottle and the people on the seats behind us
We sterilised with boiling water rather than a portable steriliser because no he will not die if it’s not 100% sterilised and also we just weren’t going to lug around 500 baby items with us
He didn’t cry once on the flight. He was happy. He slept all the hours he needed to
And don’t get me wrong in not saying I’m some superhero A* mum
But I’m chilled. I improvise. I ask for help when I need it
As parents we’re already stressed out enough, especially if you’re a team of working parents
So why add all of these completely unrealistic expectations to parenthood?
I accepted a long time ago that I will never be that type A bubble wrap helicopter mum
You know the one with the snacks prepped, toys cleaned, every ‘what if’ item stashed in a Mary poppins bag?
Couldn’t be further from what I am 😭
But we make it work, always
I don’t want my son to grow up around a mum who’s constantly stressing, panicking, packing every ‘what if’ item
I want to raise a son with independence, who manages with what he has, who gets CREATIVE!
because as more and more studies get released - that’s a huge problem in young generations in today’s world of ‘ease’
They’re becoming less creative, less independent, less…. kids in a way
and what’s the point of childhood if you can’t have those?
