I bombed my dream job interview at GSK
I bombed my dream job interview at GSK
The role? Drug scientist. The dream? White coat. Lab. Changing lives. The reality? Complete disaster.
I walked out knowing I'd failed.
Devastated doesn't even cover it.
4 years of biochemistry. Countless all-nighters. £60k in student debt.
All for this moment.
And I'd blown it.
With graduation looming and no job lined up, panic set in.
The ONLY placement left was a digital marketing role at my Students' Union.
Marketing? Me?
I took it because rent doesn't pay itself.
Day 1: What's a CTA? Day 7: Wait, people PAY for social media? Day 30: Holy sh*t I love this.
That 'failure' at GSK?
Best thing that ever happened to me.
Because here's what nobody tells you about rejection:
Sometimes life is redirecting you to where you actually belong.
I thought I was meant to be in a lab. Turns out I was meant to be in Bali.
Running a business that scales brands to 7 figures. Working with science-led wellness companies. Using my biochem brain for data analysis that actually drives revenue.
Not stuck in a sterile room pipetting samples for 40 years.
That GSK rejection taught me something my mum always said:
'If it's meant for you, it won't pass you by.'
Your biggest loss might just be the universe setting you up for your biggest win
Trust the redirection.
Even when it feels like everything's falling apart.
ESPECIALLY then.
P.S. To the interviewer who rejected me - thank you. You saved me from a life that wasn't mine to live 🤍
