PSA: boomers prepare to get mad
1. holidays. if ur work is done in 1 week, take 3 weeks a month off, i dont care. do ur work, do it good, attend meetings. thats all i require x
2. nightmare clients. if a client is causing me, my team, heck even my dogs, unnecessary stress, they're in the bin. no retainer/client is worth sacrificing your sanity for
3. excuses. you aren't physically ill but just feel like shite today and wanna lay in bed watching Netflix? thats cool, just tell me. I have those days (all the time), so you should get them too. Just don't lie to me and say you have a wedding or the dog ate ur laptop
4. slavery. an extreme word, because a lot of companies by definition treat employees like slaves. if u get a deal for the business, you get a 50:50 split with me. if u need a software to make ur life easier, I'll pay for it the same day with no questions asked. if u need time off, a coffee, a coworking space, therapy, anything - it's yours
5. constant explanations. we ALL make mistakes. i dont need 'well this happened, then this, then that'. just learn from it, and dont make the same mistake repeatedly. even when ur working on a project i dont need 'I did this then this then that'. did you get the job done? yes? then thats all i care about
dont get me wrong - sometimes there's situations these rules dont work in (eg when we're onboarding a new client account you're needed on, odds are you cant take a spontaneous week off)
but my staff I TRUST
not because they dont make mistakes (they do, and so do i) not because I have an xyzabc emplyee scheme to make my company look like it cares about its workers
simply because i treat them human. how i would treat myself
I think how you treat your staff says a lot about who you are and how you operate
Working on this for your own brand? This is exactly what I do with clients — fractional cmo for health & wellness brands.
